Lee Atwater, a head republican strategist, in an anonymous interview in 1981. He is admitting that republicans use coded-language to appeal to the racists in their base. Because, as he always said, “people vote their fears.”
Lee, who would eventually become the head of the Republican National Committee, helped Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush win their Presidential elections by teaching them to use overtly-racist tactics.
When the N-word became taboo, Republicans began referring to black people in less-direct ways, with terms like “welfare queens.” They learned how to say the N-word, without saying the N-word.
Sadly, this still continues today. As seen in Newt Gingrich’s claim that Obama is a “food stamp President” and Rick Santorum’s assertion that he doesn’t “want to make black people’s lives better by giving them someone else’s money.”

vinylrescue asked: Wow, you took my "vinyls" post way too seriously. I thought it was a lighthearted, and hopefully humorous, attempt to help some of the vinyl newbies use the proper terminology. I did it for fun. I was not trolling. If I understand the way language works correctly, if enough people use "vinyls" colloquially it will become accepted and proper. That would not be the end of the world to me. I love vinyl and the people who listen to it. I hope you do feel better about humanity. :)
we have been caught in a vicious cycle of taking things seriously which are not meant to be
A New York City Police Department sergeant has been caught on video threatening several Brooklyn men with his gun and with sexual assault.
Cell phone video obtained by the New York Post shows Sgt. Lesly Charles launching into a profane tirade while talking to several men who are suspected of criminal behavior.
“I have a long dick, you don’t,” Charles says. “Listen to me. When you see me, you look the other way. Tell your boys, I don’t fuck around. I’ll take my gun and put it up your ass and then I’ll call your mother afterwards. OK? And I’ll put your own shit in your mouth. Alright?”
“You guys are hustling or whatever, I ain’t got no problem with that,” he adds. “But when I come around and I speak, you fucking listen. Tell your boys.”
“Your pretty face, I like it very much. My dick will go in your mouth and come out your ear. Don’t fuck with me.
According to the Post, the 21-year-old man who recorded the video was arrested that evening for disorderly conduct. More than 20 earlier arrests included charges relating to larceny, weapons and drugs.
Reached at home by the paper on Sunday, Charles explained he was “just doing God’s work.”
“You know I can’t comment… Have a blessed day.”
A source close to Charles said he was simply “trying to get the message across in a way they could understand.”
…and the plural of vinyl is not “vinyls”
I don’t understand what the motivation was behind making this. Was this person really so pissed off at the colloquial usage of the term “vinyl” to refer to Long Playing records? Are they trolling, or is this legit?
I find it tragic that someone out there had nothing better to do with their time than make this.
I’m gonna go listen to some vinyl to make me feel better about humanity.
